Simon McDermott

Simon "Mac" McDermott is the son of Teddy Mac - 'The Songaminute Man'. Teddy was the eldest of 14 children and enjoyed singing all through growing up. When he left school, he became a club singer and was a Butlin's Redcoat in the 1970s, where he met his wife, Linda.

However, in 2013, Teddy started to develop Alzheimer's Disease. Despite forgetting many things, Simon connected by singing with his dad and shared videos of his father singing on the internet in order to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society. The campaign proved successful, attracting more than 60 million views worldwide and leading to Teddy getting signed with Decca Records and recording his first single. The fundraising raised more than 150,000 for the Alzheimer's Society - which helped to fund their National Dementia Helpline to support families like Simon's.

Simon and Teddy gained special recognition for their fund-raising work and raising awareness of Alzheimers by being presented with a Pride of Britain Award by Cliff Richard and Dame Joan Collins in the 2016 awards.

Simon has also secured a book deal and is determined to tell his dad's story. His book, 'The Songaminute Man', will be published by Harper Collins in Spring 2018 - and will also be available in eBook and audio-download.

Simon's background is in digital content and marketing and he has worked for various charities and organisations in London. He also has a background in journalism, writing and digital video.
