Jon Sopel for the past three years has been the presenter of the Politics Show on BBC1, interviewing all the major figures on thew national stage. In 2007 he was voted political journalist of the year.
He is also a senior presenter on the BBC News Channel where in the past few years has anchored coverage from the middle east during the Israel Lebanon war, Sri Lanka after the tsunami, New Orleans after Katrina. He will be in Beijing for the Olympics and will front the Channel's US presidential election coverage.
Before becoming a full time presenter, Jon was the BBC's Paris Correspondent. he was sent from there to report on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Before moving abroad he was the BBC's chief political correspondent at Westminster, during which time he wrote an acclaimed biography of Tony Blair.
He started his career as a reporter in local radio at Radio Solent.
